February 2010 update ...in progress

WORLD EXPEDITIONS KICKS OFF BEYOND THE SMILE LITERACY PROGRAM

SEE LITERACY PAGE FOR DETAILS

In November 2008 I guided Three Peaks in the Khumbu for World Expeditions in the Everest area of Nepal. There were 9 members in the team including 4 women. Most reached the top of the 3 peaks, and all were thrilled by the experience and what they learned..

“ The trip was excellent, I think I enjoyed it even more than I thought I would!” “Thanks so much for a great trip - to meet everyone and have such experiences and to learn many lessons”

This trip is on again in November 09. Contact me for details and see treks and climbs page.

For the last three years I have been working on a documentary based on my experiences in Nepal and the questions I ask myself about my Nepali coworkers.

Beyond the Smile has been approved by Documentary Australia, which means donations to this work in progress are tax deductible!

Just back from taking a private Horsham group to the stunning and little frequented Langtang National Park. From rain forest to alpine meadows and Himalayan giants..This trip will be on again in April 2010. It is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels who want to give trekking a go. Reaching your personal best is guaranteed! Contact me for details

Brigitte Muir O.A.M. a quick overview...
I was born in Belgium in 1958 and it was not until I was a teenager that I discovered caving. Well, that was a lot more exciting that watching TV all week end.
Since 1976, I have caved, rock climbed and climbed mountains all over the world.
I have fantastic memories from nine expeditions to 8000m high peaks, from mountains everywhere, from Australian deserts and Antarctic horizons.
I have a degree in archaeology, history of art and musicology but I can’t say I used it much. I have been too busy climbing!
In 1997, I became the first Australian woman to climb Mount Everest and the first Australian, male or female, to climb the highest peak on each continent.
Penguin published a book I wrote about my life and Everest climb in 1998. It is called ‘The Wind in my Hair’.
In 2004, National Geographic published a book based on my Everest climb. It is part of the ‘Windows on Literacy’ series and is called ‘Climbing Mount Everest’

In more recent years I have been busy with explorations through painting and film making.  I still share my passion and experience of mountaineering with people, leading custom designed trips for World Expeditions. I also share my experiences with young people, women groups and the corporate world through motivational speaking.
