Brigitte Muir O.A.M. a quick overview...
I was born in Belgium in 1958 and it was not until I was a teenager that I
discovered caving. Well, that was a lot more exciting that watching TV all week
end. Since 1976, I have caved, rock climbed and climbed mountains all over the world.
I have fantastic memories from nine expeditions to 8000m high peaks, from
mountains everywhere, from Australian deserts and Antarctic horizons.
I have a degree in archaeology, history of art and musicology but I can’t say
I used it much. I have been too busy climbing!
In 1997, I became the first Australian woman to climb Mount Everest and
the first Australian, male or female, to climb the highest peak on each continent.
Penguin published a book I wrote about my life and Everest climb in 1998.
It is called ‘The Wind in my Hair’.
In 2004, National Geographic published a book based on my Everest climb.
It is part of the ‘Windows on Literacy’ series and is called ‘Climbing Mount Everest’

In more recent years I have been busy with explorations through painting and film making.      I still share my passion and experience of mountaineering with people, leading custom designed trips for World Expeditions. I am also an exclusive  keynote speaker for Saxton Speakers bureau.

June 2008 update

In November 2007 I guided Three Peaks in the Khumbu for World Expeditions in the Everest area of Nepal. . There were 11 members in the team, all keen to give mountaineering a go and everyone did very well at pushing their own limits... while having a good time!

“ a fantastic trip, a great experience of mountainous proportions! I really enjoyed being a mountaineer for 3 weeks under your leadership. Will never forget the summits, the team and friendship.” This trip is on again in November this year . Contact me for details!

My film Wimmera G’days is on the approved list of Documentary Australia. That means I will be seeking tax deductible donations to take it to broadcast standard and to produce a study guide for schools. See details on film page.

After my Khumbu trip, I spent some time in Nepal researching another documentary. I also visited some Sherpa friends and met their family and children. Some of those children are sponsored by previous expeditions members. They are working hard and loving school! If you want to sponsor a working Sherpa’s child’s education, contact me...
